My prayer is that you are safe. I know that some areas are struggling with lack of power and water. I pray for all and those in our community that are working hard to provide for the needs of all and also our first responders.
Archbishop Gustavo has communicated to all parishes in our diocese two items that I share with you.
First, of a dispensation for Ash Wednesday from fast and abstinence. It is traditional that on this day we do not eat meat and fast having only one full meal or two smaller ones. Because of weather conditions and other limitations we are dispensed from this obligation for Ash Wednesday if you choose.
Second as travel may not be safe to come to church Archbishop has given us permission to also distribute ashes at our weekend liturgies. Please safety first for all. At the end of all our weekend Masses we will distribute ashes for all who would want to receive them.
As of Tuesday afternoon parts of La Vernia do not have water due to freezing in the system. It may be awhile before thawing and full water is back on. Please know that there is no water at the church for use of the restrooms etc. if you were to come here. This may influence your coming to church on Ash Wednesday. I wanted all to know this.
I will be at the church for all the scheduled services to pray with you as we begin our Lent.
Masses at 6:30 and 8 am and 7 pm. Liturgy of Word and ashes at 12 noon and 5 pm.
Because of the weather there will be no adoration on Ash Wednesday .
Also due to the weather we will not have the Knights of Columbus fish fry this Friday. On Friday we will have Stations of the Cross but please do not come if travel is unsafe.
Let us pray for one another.
